The United States Diplomatic Mission to Nigeria’s Public Affairs Section issued the warning in a statement on Wednesday.
Certain offences may also result in restrictions on relatives of electoral offenders and families of individuals who may foment violence at the elections, according to the brief statement.
“Actions by individuals who interfere with the democratic process or incite violence against civilian populations before, during, or after the elections will be closely monitored.”
“Those found to be responsible for election-related violence or undermining the democratic process will face serious consequences, including visa restrictions.”
“Under US immigration law, certain violations may also result in family member restrictions,” the statement stated in part.
The US government, on the other hand, stated that it expects a free and fair election that would be peaceful and reflect the choice of the people of Anambra.
The American administration urged citizens, election officials, party members, and security force personnel to all play a role in ensuring a credible and secure electoral process.
