Student Shot Dead, Other Injured In Akwa Ibom.

In a supremacy battle between two competing cult groups that happened at the University of Uyo’s Town campus in Akwa Ibom state, one student was reportedly slain and another was shot.

According to reports, the event began on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, when a 300-level student from the Faculty of Social Sciences’ Geography Department was assassinated by suspected cultists.

A source who requested anonymity told our correspondent on Friday that after the student’s murder, a rival gang staged a retaliation attack against the Fine Arts Department the next day, which resulted in one of the students being shot and others being injured.

“On Tuesday, a student from the Department of Geography was slain.

However, about 5 p.m. on Wednesday, we heard gunshots in the Department of Fine Art and discovered that a student had been shot.

The insider continued, “He was said to be rushed to an unidentified hospital where he is having treatment.”

To avoid further escalation of the conflict, the institution’s management has ordered all students to abandon their hostels until further notice.

Mr. Aniediabasi Udofia, the University’s Registrar, stated on Friday urging students to continue their academic pursuits from their homes.

“The University Management has given a directive that all students residing in the University Campus hostels should vacate before 6 p.m. today, Thursday, July 01, 20211, till further notice,” the notification states.

“Students who have any ongoing academic activity (Examinations or Research Projects) in the school during this time should do so from their residences.

The notification reads, “By this notice, the Dean of Students and the Director of Security are instructed to ensure that the dormitories were evacuated as directed by Management.”
