UAE Bans All Foreign Airlines from Conveying Nigeria Passport Holders To Dubai

The has banned Nigerian passengers and others over Omicron.


Nigerians, Tanzanians, Kenyans, and Ethiopians have been barred from entering the United Arab Emirates ().


The decision was announced on Friday by the National Emergency Crisis and Disasters Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) and the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).

This has caused havoc for both inbound and outbound passengers, including Nigerians returning home for the holidays.

Some people have made last-minute flight changes to other European, African, and American airlines.

As a result of the new travel rule, Nigerians will be unable to fly with Etihad, an Abu Dhabi-based airline that has seen an unprecedented increase in passenger traffic as an alternative to Emirates.

Because of the recently resolved spat between Nigeria and the , Emirates has halted flights to Nigeria.

While neither Emirates nor Air Peace have resumed flights, the government has imposed a new travel restriction, blaming the increase in cases of the Omicron COVID-19 variant on the rise.

The GCAA and NCEMA issued a joint statement confirming the “suspension of entry of travelers from Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, and Nigeria on all domestic and international flights, as well as transit passengers coming from them, as of Saturday, December 25 at 7:30 p.m.”

Mrs. Victoria Shin-Aba, the Airport Manager of Lagos’ Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), slammed passengers who arrived at the airport with positive PCR test results on Friday.

“People who have a positive COVID test still come to the airport to board planes,” she said. For whatever reason, I’m not sure.

“They know they can’t travel with it, but they still bring it,” says the narrator. “They are definitely not allowed to travel with it.”
