He was apprehended in Enugu State’s Nkanu East Local Government Area.
The suspect was dubbed “notorious” by the army.
Brigadier General Onyema Nwachukwu, Director of Army Public Relations, said in a statement that the operation was carried out in conjunction with other security agencies while conducting Exercise GOLDEN DAWN.
On Christmas Day, he said, it happened during joint clearance operations at a camp suspected of being the fortress of IPOB/ESN elements in Akpowfu Forest in Enugu State’s Nkanu East Local Government Area.
“During the clearance operation, troops engaged the dissidents in a firefight, forcing them to flee, resulting in the arrest of their leader,” the statement continued.
“Among the items recovered by troops were an AK 47 rifle, a magazine containing 21 rounds of 7.62 mm Special, and a handset.”
“While praising troops for their achievements thus far, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Faruk Yahaya, charged them to comb and clear all suspected criminal hideouts in their Area of Responsibility.”
