Sunday Igboho News Today
The Federal Government of Nigeria was ordered to pay N20 billion to Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Igboho, by an Oyo state high court in Ibadan on Friday.
The money is for damages for the invasion of his home in Ibadan’s Soka neighbourhood, according to the court.
In a suit filed by Igboho seeking N500 billion in damages for the invasion, Presiding Judge Justice Ladiran Akintola awarded the sum as exemplary and aggravated damages against the secret police.
Officers of the Department of State Security Service, DSS, stormed Igboho’s house on July 1st to arrest him, The operatives and Igboho’s security men got into a shootout.
Before raiding the entire residence, DSS operatives killed two of Igboho’s men. Several weapons, bloody charms, and various communications devices were recovered by the security agency.
“Seven AK-47 Assault Rifles, three pump action guns, 30 fully charged AK-47 magazines, 5,000 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, five cutlasses, one jack knife, one pen knife, two pistol holders, one binoculars, a wallet containing $5 and $1 denominations; local and international driver’s licences in his name, ATM cards, a German residence permit in his name, 50 cartrids,” according to the secret police.
Igboho, on the other hand, denied the charges, claiming that the security operatives who raided his home did so without a search warrant and that he had not been invited for questioning or investigation prior to the raid. The operatives “destroyed my properties, killed people, and stole valuables and money,” he said, adding that they planted or harvested the ammunition on display in his home to frame him because “I protect myself with traditional powers, not guns.”
Igboho was arrested shortly after for illegally possessing firearms and other crimes.
