Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, the Senate Minority Leader, has won the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) senatorial ticket for Abia South.

Senator Abaribe, who dumped the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, earlier this week after withdrawing from the governorship race, was elected unopposed as the APGA senatorial flag bearer by a large crowd of delegates on Saturday evening at the Azikiwe Road in Aba.

Chief Lucky Erondu, the Returning Officer, announced Abaribe’s victory to a standing ovation from a crowd of supporters, delegates, and party members.

He was the only one running for the position.

Senator Abaribe thanked the delegates for their faith in him in his acceptance speech.

Abaribe promised not to let his supporters down and promised to keep fighting for the enthronement of democracy, equity, and justice.

He stated that he would assist in the return of Abia State to the APGA for complete liberation from godfatherism and despair.

“Now is the time to restore APGA to the state. Liberating the state and repositioning the South East is a struggle.

“The South East needs to claim APGA as its own and use it as a platform to reclaim lost ground.”

In the 2023 senatorial election, the third-term Senator will face off against Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Ho. Blessing Nwagba of the All Progressive Congress (APC).
