“President Buhari will travel to the United Kingdom tomorrow or Saturday for a four-day visit. To avert a rampage against him in London, the secret trip has not yet been made public. Remember how his last trip to London drew protests?” the source told SaharaReporters.

The Nigerian president visited the United Kingdom in March for a “routine” check-up, according to the Presidency.


The trip caused a stir because it took place during the National Association of Resident Doctors’ strike (NARD).

Some Nigerians invaded the Abuja House in London, where the President was staying, to protest the medical trip and demand that he return to Nigeria.

Buhari has travelled overseas for medical treatment at least five times since taking office on May 29, 2015, for a total of 160 days during his six years in charge.

The following is a timeline of the President’s medical trips: between February 5 and 10, 2016, he had a six-day vacation in the United Kingdom, claiming that his doctors were based there.

Buhari travelled to England for a 10-day medical trip from June 6 to June 19, 2016, for ear infection surgery. He decided to extend his journey by three days in order to rest.

On January 19, 2017, President Trump returned to London for a medical vacation.

He requested an extension of his London medical leave in a letter to the National Assembly on February 5, 2017. Buhari returned to Nigeria on March 10, 2017, but did not immediately begin work at Aso Villa.

Buhari travelled to London for another medical vacation on May 7, 2017. He had been gone for 104 days, the longest he had ever been out of the nation.

Buhari returned to Nigeria on August 19, 2017, but it took him a bit to get back to work because rodents had allegedly ruined his office furniture.
