President Muhammadu Buhari appoints  new  

Dr was named the new Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday.

Garba Shehu, Buhari’s Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, confirmed the appointment in a statement released on Monday.

Adetifa will succeed Chikwe Ihekweazu, who has been appointed to the World Health Organization (WHO), according to Shehu.

Ihekweazu had been the NCDC Director-General since 2016 when Buhari appointed him, but he was recently promoted to Assistant Director-General by WHO.

In an official letter to Ihekweazu, WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus stated that the Nigerian is the global health organization’s deputy in charge of health emergency intelligence.

He will take over as director of WHO’s pandemic and epidemic response hub in Berlin, Germany, on November 1, 2021.
