Senator Lau was named as the new Deputy Minority Leader of the Senate by Senate President Ahmad Lawan, who read a letter from the PDP’s National Chairman, Dr. Iyorchia Ayu.

Lawan officially recognized Bwacha as an APC member on the floor on Tuesday morning.

Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, the Chief Whip, had been instructed by Lawan to transport Bwacha to his new seat on the section of the island reserved for members of the ruling party.

Even as members of the minority PDP kicked against the development, Kalu promptly carried out the order.

According to Lawan, the APC now has 70 members in the Chamber, while the PDP has 38, leaving the Young Progressives Congress (YPP) with just one member.

Senator George Sekibo’s attempts to draw the Senate’s attention to the unusual and illegal nature of Bwacha’s defection were met with a brick wall.
