Unknown Gunmen have killed several police officers in Ihiala, Anambra State, as they wreak havoc on the community.

Anambra State police officers were killed and their vehicles were set ablaze by gunmen, according to reports monitored by Ejes Gist News. The exact number of police officers killed and their vehicles destroyed has not yet been determined.

Several other police officers were injured, according to information obtained by this online news platform, during a shooting incident at a security post set up by the operatives in Okija, Ihiala Local Area of the state on Thursday evening.

According to a source, “approximately three police vehicles were also set on fire.”

Other details surrounding the attack, including the identities of the perpetrators, were still being worked out at the time of filing this report.

Reports from our correspondent indicated that the incident is the latest in what appears to be a growing trend of attacks on police stations and security personnel in the country’s southern-eastern region, according to the report.

A joint security unit codenamed ‘Ebube Agu’ has been established by the governors of the region to “fight rising insecurity,” according to a recent announcement.

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and its security wing, the Eastern Security Network (ESN), have been accused of carrying out the attacks by the Nigerian , an accusation that the secessionist group has categorically denied.
