Charles Ugwu, Chairman of the Imo State PDP, has resigned from his position.
Former Deputy Governor Gerald Irona Takes Over, Presides Over Meetings.
Charles Ugwu, the chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo state, has reportedly resigned from his position.
According to a source close to Ugwu who spoke with our correspondent, Mr. Ugwu resigned under duress after the incident at the Party’s Secretariat on Saturday, April 30th, 2022.
Remember that Mr. Charles Ugwu’s office was invaded and taken over by thugs led by former Deputy Governor Gerald Irona, who forced Ugwu to leave his office while accusing him of failing to complete “a task” assigned to him in connection with the 3-Man Ad-Hoc exercise.
It was also reported that Irona ordered that members of the National Assignment Committee, who were already meeting with Chairman Ugwu, be manhandled for failing to comply with his demand that the officials delegated by the party’s national leadership conduct the exercise, adopt and sign documents, which ironically were already prepared by him. Irona threatened to kill them because they refused, claiming that he had planted explosives in the building.

The state’s female leader, Maria Mbakwe, is said to have echoed Irona’s threats, saying, “They will be killed like the late Ahmed Gulak, who was assassinated in Imo state last year.” Gerald Irona’s thugs sexually assaulted a female member of the committee, which is also on record.
According to an eye witness who spoke with our correspondent yesterday, the siege on the party secretariat in Imo state lasted about 5 hours. The chairman, according to our source, did not return to the area on Saturday.
Gerald Irona, the former deputy governor, is also said to have presided over a number of State Working Committee meetings and engagements, including the one held today, Tuesday, May 3, 2022.
Irona’s actions, according to our source, are indicative of a clear sabotage of all ongoing reconciliation efforts in the Imo state PDP.
As of press time, all attempts to contact Mr. Charles Ugwu to confirm the news were unsuccessful.
