Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, the group’s spokesperson, was recently caught on tape requesting the extradition of the suspended DCP.

CNG and other Northern groups had previously called for support for Abba Kyari, the embattled police chief.

In response, a group of about 31 northern Nigerian lawyers volunteered to assist the beleaguered DCP with legal assistance.

Abba Kyari was suspended in connection with a $1.1 million scam involving Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi, a confessed fraudster.

The CNG had pointed out several procedural lapses bordering on breaches of international protocol in the alleged FBI attempt to ensnare Kyari in the Hushpuppi affair, as well as the obvious haste with which the Nigerian Police authorities stripped him of his position and replaced him with a substantive replacement, at a Roundtable in Kaduna.

As a result, it has called on northern Nigerian lawyers to mobilise and deploy legal resources to ensure that Mr Kyari’s rights are not violated by a foreign power or that local administrative processes are not abused.

Northern groups demanded a review of Kyari’s suspension and the transfer of his case to the Nigeria Intelligence Agency at a meeting in Kaduna (NIA).

On a recently leaked tape obtained by Vanguard, however, Suleiman stated that Abba Kyari must prove his innocence, adding that no amount of protests from some quarters would deter the US from prosecuting the embattled police chief.

Meanwhile, Suspended DCP Abba Kyari, the former Commander of the Police Intelligence Response Team, IRT, was grilled for four hours by the Inspector General of Police’s probe panel on Tuesday, August 10th, over his relationship with confessed fraudster Ramon Abass aka Hushpuppi.

The Special Investigation Panel, led by Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of the Force Criminal Investigations Department, DIG Joseph Egbunike, interrogated the suspects at the FCID’s Area 10 headquarters in Garki, Abuja.

The interrogation, which is being held behind closed doors, began around 2 p.m. and lasted until about 6 p.m. before being adjourned, according to sources.
