INEC Office Set Ablaze by Hoodlums
Mr Ohaa said the Enugu State Fire Service received a distress call around 1.30 a.m.
“As is customary, our trucks and men at Ozalla Station rushed to the scene as soon as we received the distress call.
“We dispatched fire engines and firefighters from the Enugu metropolis in equal numbers.
“Our quick action saved the entire complex because the raging fire only affected one office room before it was extinguished,” he said.
Mr Ohaa said the quick response of firefighters validated Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s decision to establish fire stations in local government areas.
“It is important to note that the state’s residents and infrastructure are now benefiting from Gov. Ugwuanyi’s massive investment in the construction and equipping of new fire stations across the state,” he said.
The arsonists may have climbed through the perimeter fence to gain access to the INEC complex, according to reports.
NAN’s attempts to speak with police and INEC officials about the incident were unsuccessful because they did not pick up their phones.
Arsonists attacked the INEC headquarters in Enugu State earlier this year, as well as the INEC office in the state’s Udenu Local Government Area.
