Usman Alkali Baba, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), says he has yet to see or receive a formal extradition request for Mr Abba Kyari, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), following his indictment by a US court.
Abba Kyari was accused earlier this year of being a co-conspirator in a $1 million fraud scheme involving Instagram celebrity Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi.
IGP Alkali Baba gave an update on the case on Thursday, saying that he had only heard about it on social media and that there had been no extradition request, as some have claimed.
The Inspector General went on to say that the panel tasked with investigating the case had submitted its findings to the Secretary General of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, for vetting and advice.
He went on to say that the Force has only recently received feedback from the SGF and is debating the next course of action.

Despite a warrant issued by a US magistrate judge, Otis Wright, ordering Kyari’s arrest, the police chief’s statement is the latest on the contentious issue.
While confirming that investigations had been completed and findings submitted about a month ago, Minister of Police Affairs Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi also stated that President Muhammadu Buhari would have final say on the matter.
