BREAKING: Gunmen Attack School, Kill One Student, Abduct Others In Niger

Armed men attacked the Kagara government science college in the Rafi local government area of the Niger state.

At least one student is feared to be killed and several other students abducted.

Some teachers and their family members living in college staff quarters were also said to have been abducted by gunmen.

A government source pleading for anonymity made this known to Channels Television by telephone conversation in the early hours of Wednesday.

According to the source, the attackers were said to have stormed Government Science College Kagara at about 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday and started shooting sporadic.

In the process, a student was killed while some others were gunned down.

However, the source could not indicate the number of persons abducted and injured, as at the time of filing of the report.

The source also added that the gunmen were dressed in the same school uniform used by the students, disguised as school members.

The latest attack comes just three days after gunmen attacked a bus belonging to the Niger State Transport Authority (NSTA) along Minna-Zungeru Road and abducted at least 21 passengers.

The state governor, Abubakar Bello, condemned the abduction, promising to secure the release of the passengers.

On Tuesday, a statement from the Information Commissioner’s Office in the state, Mohammed Idris, said that ten people had been released from the hands of the bandits.

In addition, the Information Commissioner claimed that ransom was not paid to secure their release.
