The news now is that Gunmen have Abducted Miyetti Allah’s Chairman.

Ejes Gist reports that Alhaji Wakili Damina, the Chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) in Kogi State, has been kidnapped.

Mr Adamu Abubakar, the state secretary of MACBAN, told newsmen in Lokoja on Tuesday that Damina was kidnapped on April 30 by armed men dressed in army fatigues.

According to witnesses, the abductors arrived in a white bus at about noon to “forcefully” remove the Chairman from his home in Chikara village, Kogi Local Government. Abubakar said that he was told of the incident an hour later by Damina’s younger brother, who claimed to have witnessed it.

The Secretary said he dialled the phone number of the missing Chairman right away, but it was disconnected.

When he called Damina’s number again about an hour later, he said it was turned off. “Since then, his lines have been unreachable, and all attempts to find out where he is have failed,” he said.

Abubakar said he immediately informed the state Commissioner of Police of the situation, and that the state government was also informed through Mr Jerry Omodara, the governor’s Special Adviser on Security Matters.

The Secretary said that he and some members of the association went to the Nigeria Police Force headquarters in Abuja to see if Damina was being held there, but that they told them no.

He also said that MACBAN had dispatched a search party to other locations, including abattoirs in and around Abuja, to no avail.

When contacted, the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ede Ayuba, said that the Chairman’s whereabouts are still unknown.

The Commissioner said that he called Damina’s phone several times after learning of the incident but received no response. Ayuba said that he was unable to obtain accurate information about the incident from the Divisional Police Officer in charge of the area where it occurred because the incident had not been formally reported to him.
