Governor Akeredolu’s wife chased out of APC secretariat in Imo
Betty Akeredolu, the First Lady of Ondo State, was chased out of the All Progressives Congress (APC) secretariat in Imo on Saturday, May 28.
She is running for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ticket for Imo West senatorial district.
The First Lady, who is from Imo state, led her supporters to the party’s secretariat to protest the consensus option adopted by the party in choosing its candidate for the 2023 election.
Her supporters were said to have gone berserk, insisting that they be allowed to vote. As police attempted to control the crowd, a stampede ensued, with both journalists and delegates who had also arrived for the exercise fleeing for their lives.
The police were forced to chase Betty and her supporters out of the building so they could continue their protest.
The First Lady told journalists outside the secretariat gate that it is unfair to allow aspirants to campaign only to be told that the party had chosen the consensus option.
” I am adamant that we must elect delegates by delegate election.
I can’t afford to spend time and money campaigning only to be told that the candidates will be chosen by consensus. We must vote, and if I valiantly lose, I will accept the outcome.
“Consensus, consensus, consensus, consensus, consensus, consensus, consensus, consensus, consensus, consensus, I will not agree to a consensus if men agree to it.
You’re now telling me about consensus after spending my time and money, and all this time we’ve been campaigning and no one has mentioned consensus.”
