FCT minister orders indefinite closure of Dei-Dei market.

Following a dispute between commercial motorcyclists and traders, FCT Minister Mohammad Bello ordered the indefinite closure of Dei– Dei International Market on Wednesday.

After examining the event scene with FCT Commissioner of Police Sunday Babaji, Director State Security Services, other sister security agencies, and top FCT Administration officials, Bello issued the order.

Trouble began in the market when an unidentified female trader fell off a commercial motorcycle and was killed by an articulated vehicle.

The minister ordered the community and market leaders to find the hoodlums who had caused the catastrophe.

“The community and market leaders must search for hoodlums and bad apples among them; unfortunately, hoodlums this time have guns and have shot innocent people.

“In reality, I witnessed four bodies, which is incredibly sad and completely unacceptable in Abuja.”

“We’ve agreed with security services to conduct full-scale investigations, and the communities must be a part of the solution or there will be no peace.”

“In the meanwhile, the timber market and neighbouring markets, as well as all road activities that have clustered the road and rendered it impassable, will all come to a halt until the technical team examines everything, at which point we will make the next decision.”

Bello said that there were no tribal or religious misunderstandings because all of the various groups’ leaders have lived in harmony for many years.

“This is simply a case of criminals and hoodlums seizing control of the law,” he explained.
