Police Arrest Abba Kyari and 4 Other Officers
Abba Kyari, the Nigerian Police Force’s Deputy Commissioner of Police, has been arrested.

Kyari’s detention follows allegations of connection with a Brazilian cocaine cartel.

In a statement issued in Abuja, Deputy Force Public Relations Officer Olumuyiwa Adejobi confirmed Kyari’s and four others’ arrests.
They were arrested on Monday for their suspected roles in a case of unlawful drug trafficking involving a permanent global drug cartel, including criminal conspiracy, discreditable, unethical, and unprofessional conduct, official corruption, and tampering with exhibits, according to the police.

“The officers were arrested as a result of information received from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) leadership on February 10, 2022,” said Adejobi, a Chief Superintendent of Police. “In accordance with Force policy, the Inspector General of Police ordered a high-level, confidential, and in-house investigation into the claims.”
“According to the interim investigation report, two international drug couriers, Chibunna Patrick Umeibe and Emeka Alphonsus, both males, were apprehended at Akanu Ibiam International Airport in Enugu on the 19th of January 2022 upon their arrival from Addis Ababa aboard Ethiopian Airlines flight ET917.”
“The two narcotic couriers were arrested, and a large quantity of powdered substance presumed to be cocaine was recovered from them.” A squad of the Police Intelligence Response Team (IRT) carried out the intelligence-driven operation.”
