Bola Ahmed Adekunle Tinubu was born in Lagos State, Nigeria, on March 29, 1952. Chief Abibatu Mogaji, his mother, was the Iyaloja of Lagos State. Tinubu is the Asiwaju of Lagos and the Jagaban of Niger State’s Borgu Kingdom.

Tinubu attended St. John’s Primary School in Aroloya, Lagos, and Children’s Home School in Ibadan, Nigeria, for his primary and secondary education. He is married to Oluremi Tinubu, the current Senator for the Lagos Central Constituency, and they have three children together.

Bola Ahmed had always wanted to travel abroad but had never had the chance until life handed him the opportunity on a silver platter.

Tinubu and his friends were walking down the street to church when a shooting erupted. Despite Tinubu’s narrow escape, the man next to him was shot. As a result, his family decided that it was time for him to leave the country and pursue his education elsewhere. He sold the Volkswagen his uncle gave him to raise money for his trip, while his mother sold all of her belongings.

In 1975, Tinubu arrived in the United States. While in the United States, he first attended Richard J. Daley College in Chicago, Illinois, and then transferred to Chicago State University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1979.

Tinubu worked as a cab driver, a security guard, a door guard, a dishwasher, and a room service employee while in school. He no longer relied on his Nigerian family for pocket money because he had multiple sources of income.

Tinubu was an exceptional student who held the title of best student from the beginning to the end of the academic year. His outstanding performance earned him a scholarship as well as the opportunity to tutor in the accounting department.

Tinubu was the best student in his class when he graduated. He was eligible for several job offers from big accounting firms in the United States as the best graduating student in his class. Arthur Andersen, Arthur Young, Ernst and Whinney, Peat Marwick and Mitchell, Deloitte, IBM, Arthur Young, Deloitte, Haskins and Sells, and others were among the firms involved.

Tinubu had the option of selecting only one firm. He would have chosen the highest-paying job, but his professor advised him to choose a company where he could learn and contribute to his country’s development. Because Nigeria is an oil-producing country, he chose Deloitte and Touche because their clients are in the oil and gas industry.

Tinubu’s Career At Mobil Nigeria

He went on to work for General Telephone and Electronics after a successful career at Deloitte and Touche (GTE). He resigned from GTE after experiencing firsthand racism and discrimination, and went on to work for Mobil in the United Kingdom.

Tinubu returned to Nigeria in 1983 and resumed work with Mobil Nigeria, where he began as an auditor. He quickly ascended to the position of treasurer. Tinubu was the driving force behind the building of the Mobile Nigeria House.

Bola Tinubu Political Career

Bola Tinubu entered politics in 1992 as a member of the Nigerian Social Democratic Party (SDP) (SDP). He was a member of the Peoples Front, a faction of the party. Shehu Musa Yar’Adua was the leader of the faction. Dapo Sarumi, Abdullahi Aliyu Sumaila, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and Yomi Edu were also members of the People’s Front.

Tinubu was elected to the Nigerian Senate in 1993 as a member of the Lagos West constituency. Bola Tinubu served as the chairman of the Senate Appropriations, Finance, and Banking Committee.

Following the annulment of the June 12, 1993 elections, Tinubu formed the National Democratic Coalition with other pro-democratic politicians (NADECO).

NADECO was formed to restore democracy and ensure that the election results of June 12 were upheld.

The military dictator of the time did not approve of NADECO’s activities (Sani Abacha). Tinubu was forced to go into exile in 1994, first to the Benin Republic, then to the United Kingdom, for fear of his life.

Sani Abacha passed away in 1998. Abacha’s death, on the other hand, marked the beginning of the transition to civilian rule. General Abdulsalami Abubakar was then named as the country’s new leader. General Abubakar was the one who asked Bola Tinubu and other exiled politicians to return to Nigeria.

Bola Ahmed Tinubu, a member of the Alliance for Democracy, ran for the office of executive governor of Lagos State (ADP). In May 1999, he won the election and became the governor of Lagos State.

Tinubu promised that as governor, he would provide 10,000 housing units for the poor. He also made significant investments in education and began road construction to meet the needs of Lagos State’s rapidly growing population.

On the 29th of May 2007, Bola Tinubu’s term as Governor of Lagos State came to an end. Babatunde Fashola, his chief of staff, took over as his successor.
