Blaqbonez Back In Uni Video is on Ejes Gist Newspaper.
The Chocolate City artist, Blaqbonez, mocks Naija’s hottest Afrobeats acts in the video for “Back In Uni,” a single from his upcoming album Young Preacher..
The 26-year-old rapper, collaborated with one of Ghana’s top producers, Jae5, for “Back In Uni,” a catchy single with sweet melodies and lyrics about breaking hearts, getting girls, and the failure of his enemies.
The real draw, however, is the accompanying music video, directed by Blaqbonez and Perliks. Unrelated to the lyrics, the visuals are a witty homage to music videos and pop culture references that are currently popular in Nigeria. Here’s a quick summary.
Oxlade’s COLORS performance of his massive hit “Ku Lo Sa” has been nearly impossible to miss in recent months, and he gives us an accurate rendition of his viral moves. Blaqbonez transforms into Ruger in “Girlfriend” with a pirate eyepatch and pink hair. Mr.Money himself, Asake, obviously did not escape: Blaqbonez is a convincing “Bandana” singer, sporting silver grillz and making all the facial expressions for the camera. And when it comes to Afrobeats princess Ayra Starr, Blaqbonez does not hold back: in a platinum blond wig, he references a video snippet for her latest single “Rush.”
Blaqbonez also alluded to African Giant Burna Boy’s recent “high-waisted” Dazed cover, Wizkid’s black-and-white artwork for “Bad To Me,” as well as comedian Carter Efe and Internet sensation Portable.
The “Back In Uni” visuals are sure to heighten interest in Blaqbonez’ upcoming album Young Preacher.
This 13-track project comes on the heels of the successful Sex Over Love project and a collaborative mixtape with Naija rappers A-Q and M.I. Abaga.
The features have yet to be revealed, but Young Preacher is expected to be a “rap, reggaeton, and trap” infused project that will be released on October 21st.
