Biafra: Senator Victor Umeh, the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), says the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has every reason to demand the Biafra Republic.

Umeh revealed this during a Channels Television appearance on Wednesday.

He stated that the proscribed group’s agitations must be addressed immediately for peace to return to the South-East zone.

Dialogue and persuasion should be used to address issues of Igbo marginalisation in the Nigerian polity, according to Umeh.

According to the former Senator, IPOB’s sit-at-home order and the palpable insecurity in Anambra almost jeopardised the state’s governorship election on November 6.

Umeh, on the other hand, revealed that key stakeholders in the region, such as traditional rulers and religious leaders, contacted IPOB to ensure that the election took place.

President Muhammadu Buhari was also praised by the APGA chieftain for dominating the state with more security operatives to allay the fears of the electorate.

“Through negotiations, the IPOB declared openly on November 4 that people should go vote in the election, and the sit-at-home order that they had issued for one week beginning November 5 was lifted,” he said.

“Our traditional rulers and traditional leaders will receive the highest praise. We had no choice but to reach out to our young people, who had been threatening that Anambra State would not hold elections.”
