Many Dead as Boat Carrying Over 160 Passengers Capsizes In River Niger

: Six Die, 8 Missing In Benue Boat Accident

Ejes Gist Newspaper reports that a boat carrying six passengers sank in Fada village in Guma Local Government Area, Benue State resulting in their deaths.

According to SP. Catherine Anene, the state’s police public relations officer (PPRO), the incident took place on Tuesday at 1:00 p.m.

She claimed that the unfortunate boat capsized near Fada village in Guma while transporting 40 people for business purposes from Guma LGA to Buruku LGA.

Twenty-six (26) people were saved thanks to the combined efforts of the police and fishermen in the area, and they were taken to a hospital for treatment.

Six (6) bodies have been found, and the search is still ongoing for the other eight (8) people.

Anene said, “The Benue State Command Commissioner of Police, CP. Wale Abass, commiserates with relatives and friends of the deceased while warning travellers who select water transport to adopt utmost safety measures when travelling on water, especially given that the volume of water is quite high.
