The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, said the President of Benin Republic, Patrice Talon, had expressed readiness for his country to be part of Nigeria.

Onyeama said this shortly after a closed-door meeting on Friday with Aurélien Agbenonci, the Beninese Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation.

The minister said the President of Benin made the bid when he visited President Muhammad Buhari a couple of weeks ago.

“The President of Benin said they want to (not just say it like that) as far as they are concerned, but in reality, Benin should be Nigeria’s 37th state,” Onyeama said.
