The Peoples Democratic Party () has stated that Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle’s statement that he joined the All Progressives Congress () in order to persuade the Federal to end insecurity in his state is proof that the and its are to blame for the banditry, terrorism, and kidnappings that have ravaged the state.

“The Peoples Democratic Party () says the confession by Zamfara State governor, , that he joined the All Progressives Congress (APC) in order to get the Federal Government to end insecurity in his state, reinforces public stance that the APC and its government are responsible for banditry, terrorism, and insecurity in his state,” says the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan.

The party feels that now that he has finally joined the APC, he (Matawalle) has the full support of the Federal Government to combat insecurity, underlining that this further exposes the APC’s lack of commitment to addressing insecurity, which it appears to be fanning for political benefit.

The statement by Governor Matawalle, according to the party, “further confirms that the APC has been promoting insecurity in various parts of the country, particularly terrorism and kidnapping for ransom, as a way to create an emergency situation to cover their atrocities, syphon public funds, and intimidate and coerce state governors elected on the platforms of other political parties to join them.”

The PDP, on the other hand, recalls how the APC-led Federal Government put pressure on Governor Matawalle by imposing a no-fly zone and threatening to declare a state of emergency in the state.

Nigerians now know who is behind the violent abductions, kidnappings, and other acts of terrorism in the state and other parts of the country, according to the party, and why the situation has worsened under the APC.

It observed that the APC’s use of the blood of innocent and vulnerable Nigerians for political advantage as well as to generate macabre souvenirs for its leaders and associates is truly awful and unforgivable.

The PDP stated that the confession proves that Governor Matawalle did not defect to the APC because the party has any democratic credentials, as the APC national leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, falsely claimed, but rather because he succumbed to intimidation and cowardly joined those responsible for Nigeria’s killings and acts of violence.

According to the PDP, the APC lacks democratic credentials to attract well-meaning and patriotic Nigerians since it is a party of political bandits.

It reminded Matawalle that joining such persons, who have caused so much grief and pain to his people, is an unforgivable act of betrayal that will hang over him like an albatross, especially given his own vows.

The PDP dismissed Matawalle’s brag about regaining the governorship mandate as the lame kick of a disoriented and confused deserter, noting that the 1999 Constitution (as amended) is explicit on the responsibilities of a deputy governor who finds himself under an absconding governor like Matawalle.
