Atiku Abubakar Announces Ifeanyi Okowa as his Running Mate
Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate for 2023, has officially announced Ifeanyi Okowa as his running mate.
Following a series of meetings with senior members of the opposition party, Atiku has made his decision.

A 19-member committee was formed to select/nominate Atiku’s running mate. Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike was chosen.
However, the party’s leadership, led by Iyorchia Ayu, its chairman, was unhappy with the choice.
They believed Wike would be ‘too close’ to the presidency and, based on his history, a ‘threat.’

Several party Chieftains also objected to Wike’s appointment, citing his temperament, perceived dictatorial tendencies, and proclivity for picking fights with key allies.
Atiku’s first choice for the position was Okowa.
On Thursday morning, he appeared before the screening panel and was swiftly cleared.
