In ASUU strike update today, the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, stated on Monday that the Federal Government owns her universities and has the authority to close and reopen them.
Professor Ayoola Akinwole, ASUU Chairman at the University of Ibadan, stated in Ibadan that the Union never shut down the Universities.
He stated that her members would not be attending classes but would continue to conduct research and provide community service.
Akinwole stated that the Union is on strike, with members withdrawing from teaching, supervising, and holding statutory meetings in accordance with the ongoing strike.
“We remain committed to pursuing the strike, and our members have resolved not to be confined by tyrannical orders.” As you are aware, we have filed an appeal against the Industrial Court’s decision.
“Our members will not participate in teaching, supervision, or statutory meetings until our demands are met and the strike is suspended by the union leadership.”
He urged the Federal Government to sign a renegotiated agreement with the union, as well as pay revitalisation funds and earned allowances, among other things.
