The Council of Students Union Presidents has made a new announcement.

Ejes Gist Newspaper reports that the council declared that if the Academic Staff Union of Universities’ ( ASUU) ongoing strike is not called off, its members will storm the Federal Capital Territory for a peaceful protest.

In a letter dated July 19, 2022, addressed to Minister of Education Adamu Adamu, the organisation, which consists of the presidents of all student unions at federal universities in Nigeria, gave the federal government seven days to settle their dispute with ASUU.

The CSUP Convener, Shuaib Yahaya, stated that all of the Student leaders have resolved not to back down from their decision to begin the planned protest in an interview with newsmen on Saturday.


He emphasised that some students are now involved in illegal activities as a result of the country’s ongoing strike action.

ASUU Strike : What will happen after 7 days 

He declared, “After the seven days, we will carry out a mass action that will involve all SUG presidents in Nigeria and we will be assembling in Abuja and we continue to demonstrate peacefully until the Strike is called off. If the federal government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities do not reach a resolution.

Every time we delegate certain people for the benefit of others in the long run, they compromise. As far as we are concerned, we are not working with any delegation.

“Nobody is prepared to come and make a compromise this time. We are prepared to take on the sacrifice and difficulty.

“An idle hand is the devil’s workshop,” he continued, “so many of our students have taken up the act of illegal activities because they are at home doing nothing. The strike’s goal of increasing online fraud was achieved.

“However, if classes were in session and students were actively participating in academic pursuits, there would be no such thought of engaging in online fraud.

Personally, I should have received my diploma by now, which would have happened a month ago. However, I am still here and before we can go back, I am waiting for ASUU to end its strike. The level of interest in education may decline as a result of the strike.

“If a student stays at home and does nothing, they start to think differently, and if this differently starts working, you can be sure that their interest will be reduced.


“As students, all we want is for the federal government and ASUU to settle their differences. Every negotiation table has a space where both parties will eventually need to make a concession on some specific issue.

“We are unsure of what they must do, but our concern is that they must resolve the problems and call off the strike within seven days.” Added he.

Muhammadu Buhari, the President had directed the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu, on Tuesday to end the protracted strike by the four university-based unions and report back to him in two weeks, which will pass on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.
