ASUU strike Nigeria: FG working to ensure swift resolution – Minister
Goodluck Opiah, the minister of state for education, has informed the Muhammadu Buhari administration that he is dedicated to putting an end to the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) strike as soon as possible.
The guarantee was given by the Minister in Owerri over the weekend while he answered questions from reporters at a reception hosted in his honour by his friends.
“I can promise you that the situation is causing the government great anxiety. Many meetings and talks are taking place even as I speak to you, with the goal of finding a solution as soon as possible.
He hoped that the argument would be resolved quickly.
“I’m hoping the government and ASUU’s disagreement will be addressed soon so that our kids may start school again.”
The Minister claimed that despite the difficulties facing the education sector, the Federal Government is committed to finding solutions and ending the ASUU strike.
He stated that he is ready to collaborate with Mallam Adamu Adamu, the minister of education, to have an impact on the industry.
I’m ready to have an influence on the Ministry and the Education sector, working with Minister Mallam Adamu Adamu, he declared. There must be solutions to problems where they exist. And I can guarantee that we will find a solution, allowing our kids to return to school.
ASUU strike Nigeria: Nationwide blackout looms as workers threaten to shut down power sector.
Should the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, declare a nationwide protest over the protracted industrial crises in the country’s educational sector, power sector workers have threatened to shut down the nation’s electricity supply.
The workers asserted, under the auspices of the National Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, that the government’s carefree attitude toward the ongoing closure of schools is a sad state in Nigeria’s development as a nation.
The Federal Government of Nigeria and Unions in the Tertiary Academic Sector (Universities, Polytechnics, Colleges of Education and Research Institutes) have been at an impasse that should not have persisted, according to a statement from NUEE’s general secretary Joe Ajaero.
The article continued: “This impasse, which has persisted for a number of months with the students staying at home, is undoubtedly exposing the students to all types of harmful vices harmful to nation building.
“NUEE hereby requests that the Federal Government address all issues relating to the non-implementation of Agreements and other matters affecting Nigeria’s revered Tertiary Institutions,”
