Asa Sues Joeboy over Copyright Infringement, Seeks N300m.

Soul diva Asa has filed a N300 million copyright infringement suit against Nigerian musician Joeboy whose real name is Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus.

The point of contention was on Joeboy’s second single, ‘Contour,’ which was released on August 19, 2022 and produced by Tempoe.

Artist Asa and her management had served Joe boy with a letter alleging copyright infringement on ‘Contour,’ claiming that the track was created during a recording session on September 22, 2022, with ace producer Tempoe present. She asserted ownership of the musical composition.

The letter, which was delivered on September 30, ordered Joeboy to remove the song from all streaming platforms within 24 hours, pay N300 million, assign Soul diva a 60% publishing split, and issue a written apology.

However, Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus  responded to the letter on social media by posting it on his Instagram page on October 3 and daring Soul diva to do her worst.

“Because I always do love and light, you think I’m soft meat.”

“You said I had 24 hours, now it’s 48 hours, do something,” Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus wrote.Asa Sues Joeboy for Copyright Infringement, Seeks N300m

This development could signal the start of a growing feud between a young musician, Joseph Akinwale Akinfenwa-Donus, and an established singer, Soul diva.

Tempoe appeared to be at the heart of the dispute between the two musicians. He had filed a lawsuit against Asa earlier this year.
