Appeal Court Upholds Uche Secondus's Suspension from PDP

The Court of Appeal sitting in Port Harcourt has dismissed an application challenging the suspension of Mr Uche Secondus from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

On Tuesday, a panel of three justices led by Justice Haruna Tsammani dismissed the case during a hearing in Port Harcourt, Rivers State’s capital.

The PDP had filed an appeal with the appellate court to challenge Secondus’ expulsion from the main opposition party.

A high court in Rivers affirmed Secondus’ suspension from the party in his ward in Ikuru Town, in the state’s Andoni Local Government Area, in a judgement delivered on September 10.

During Tuesday’s proceedings, Sunday Ameh, the new counsel for the main opposition party, told the court that after reviewing the processes, he did not see the need to proceed with the application.

Meanwhile, the hearing on the application to stop the PDP from holding its National Convention this weekend has been postponed.

Following an application for joinder by interested parties, the hearing on the application was postponed until 12 p.m. on Thursday.

However, it is unclear whether the court will make a decision on the adjourned date.

The PDP had scheduled a special convention in Abuja on October 30 and 31 to elect new national officers as a means of resolving the internal crisis that had rocked the party’s Secondus-led National Working Committee.

Secondus, on the other hand, is dissatisfied with the decision to hold the convention, which would bring an end to his term, which was set to expire in December.

The suspended PDP National Chairman later filed an application to prevent the party from holding the convention as part of the ongoing litigation over his suspension from the party.

Mr Yomi Akinwonmi has been serving as the PDP National Chairman in an acting capacity since Secondus’ suspension.
