Abubakar Suleiman, affiliated with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), was ousted following a judgment on Friday, which mandated a rerun in 10 polling units in the constituency. The ruling came in response to an appeal filed by Khalid Abdulmalik-Ningi of the All Progressive Congress (APC).

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had initially declared Suleiman as the winner of the Ningi Central Constituency election held on March 18.

However, dissatisfaction with INEC’s declaration led Abdulmalik-Ningi to seek redress at the Governorship and State Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, which, in turn, dismissed his case and affirmed Suleiman’s victory for a second term in office.

Unperturbed by the Tribunal’s decision, the APC candidate escalated the matter to the Court of Appeal, challenging the tribunal’s ruling. The three-man panel of the appellate court set aside the tribunal’s judgment and ordered a rerun.

In response to the development, Suleiman expressed resilience, stating that the support and solidarity he enjoys in Ningi remain unwavering. He dismissed the judgment as a minor political setback in his career, emphasizing his readiness for the rerun election.
