All Progressives Congress APC youth leaders from Bomadi, Burutu, Patani, Warri North, Warri South and Warri South-West local government Areas of delta state under the auspices of Delta Ijaw youth leaders and stakeholders forum on the 15th, January 2021 met at NNPC junior staff club Warri to register their displeasure on how the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs senator Godswill Obot Akpabio is illegally running Niger Delta development commission NDDC.
In a communiqué signed by the group president Amb. Timi Coleman Fhnr, John Gbozimor JP, publicity Secretary; Siko Eyenmi Warri North representative and other officials, made available to Journalists.
Passing a vote of no confidence on Godswill Akpabio, the youths give President Muhammadu Buhari 21-day Ultimatum to immediately sack Godswill Akpabio, Alleging he orchestrated the massive looting in the commission.
The communiqué which reads;
We have patiently waited with the hope that this anomaly, corruption, misrepresentation, illegality going on in the NDDC would be corrected. Our hopes are shattered and realized that Akpabio is not in tune with the core mandates of infrastructural development, environmental protection and youth empowerment in the ministry. Rather he now made himself as the Minister of Niger Delta development commission to orchestrate the massive looting in the commission.
It saddens our heart that the Minister Akpabio representing our region has a total dereliction of responsibilities. The facts are indisputable that Akpabio has woefully failed the Niger Delta people.
This is the consensus across the region. The Niger Delta has never experienced this kind of turbulent retrogressive concurrent looting of our patrimony at will. Since Akpabio’s appointment, the region has known no peace. The cloud of insurrection is thickened looming to explode.
Tension has erupted the region, ex-militants threatening to resume hostility, protest upon protest, court cases on the increase, women to protest naked. How long will Mr President allow the selfishness of one man out of 44 ministers to cripple the hard-earned integrity?
There is a total developmental stagnation in the region.
The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs has gone mute despite over 100 billion nairas received. East-west road abandoned, no trace of new jetties, roads, bridges, modern Schools, hospitals.
Most despicable was the coordinated looting IMC unaccounted for where two directors were arrested, detained and finally sack for illegality and mismanagement of funds. Some forfeited 250 million worth of property under the supervision of Akpabio. In the midst of these shambolic shenanigans, Akpabio went to appoint his brother Mr Akwa Effiong Okon as sole administrator not known to the establishment act.
Akpabio activities have killed the party in the region.
He has used his office in the wrong direction. He now empowers PDP people to fight us. The most recent is the appointment of a well-known PDP stalwart erstwhile commissioner for environment Bayelsa State Comrade Udengs Eradiri. APC youths across the region now live at the mercy of God. No empowerment, no appointment, having laid down our lives to support and worked for this party.
Akpabio now goes round the region wasting our monies (NDDC monies) supposedly meant for development on ex-militants for them to make press releases aimed at deceiving Mr President, Nigerians as if everything is okay in the region. Enough is enough! We will not fold our hands and watch Akpabio negotiate our commonwealth, our future. We are ready to take our destiny in our hands.
We are therefore calling on Mr President to sack Godswill Akpabio to avert the uncontrollable uproar in the region.
We are also appealing on Mr President to inaugurate the substantive board so that peace and development will return to the Niger Delta region.
We are passing a vote of no confidence on Godswill Akpabio on the ground non-adherence to the core mandates of Niger Delta Ministry, and also for coordinating the massive looting going on in NDDC.
We are calling on Mr President and appointees from the region to appoint, empower party youths in the region.
We are giving President Muhammadu Buhari and Godswill Akpabio 21 days ultimatum to do the needful, otherwise, we will massively mobilize to the streets, blocking East-West road until our demands are meant.
