I expected Buhari to choose APC presidential candidate – Tinubu
Bola Tinubu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, has stated that he and other APC presidential aspirants pleaded with President Muhammadu Buhari to pick an anointed candidate for the 2023 election.
Bola Tinubu, APC presidential candidate defeated his closest rivals, former Rivers State Governor Chibuike Amaechi and Vice President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.
There were rumors before the primary that the President would name his successor after meeting with the Progressive Governors Forum, which he pleaded with to let him name his preferred candidate.
In a letter to President Buhari dated Saturday, the former Lagos State Governor thanked him for taking a neutral stance and allowing all of the candidates to compete in the primary.
“Your Excellency, one must admire the sense of purpose, calm, and maturity you displayed in the weeks and months leading up to our great party’s primary elections. We all pleaded with you to “choose” your successor as aspirants and party leaders, according to a portion of his letter.
“This is to be expected, especially in African democracies.” The entire country of Nigeria, including myself, will be waiting for you to announce your preferred candidate until June 6, 2022, the day of the APC Presidential primaries. He continued, “We all thought and believed this was a very simple matter.”
“However, I fully and truly appreciated your position and stance to be neutral and non-aligned to any of us as the primary went into the night and the candidates walked up to the podium and spoke.”
“As the hours ticked away that evening, it became clear to me that you had chosen all of us.” The’spirit’ of 2013 and 2014, when we created and built APC, was there for all to see, as you so aptly put it in your letter to me.”
Meanwhile, APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu will battle for the number one spot with other candidates.
