APC has fixed date for National Convention, Ejes Gist Nigeria can Authoritatively report.

Ejes Gist News Nigeria reports that the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Strategy and Contact Committee, Badaru Abubakar, has said the party’s national convention will hold in June.

This online news platform understands that there are speculations that the tenure of Governor Mai Mala Buni-led Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee will be extended while the convention would be shifted beyond June.

In an interview with journalists on Tuesday at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja, Badaru said the Caretaker Committee is committed to completing its mandate by June.

“It is really feasible,” he said. I’m aware that the national Caretaker Committee intends to deliver in June. And we’ll back them up and do whatever it takes to meet our June deadline.”

Badaru, who is also the Governor of Jigawa State, announced that the APC has enrolled 36 million members as part of the ongoing registration and revalidation exercise, which is due to end on March 31.

“At first, we printed just a few thousand participants, but now we have over ten million. We’ve now reached 36 million people. And even that isn’t enough.

“And now we are printing more because people see what President Muhammadu Buhari has done with one-third of the money that the previous administration had,” he said.

However, the governor, who stated that his committee would reconcile and recruit more political heavyweights into the APC, refuted allegations that the party is attempting to establish a one-party state in Nigeria.

“Opposition will always exist. It would never be possible to have a one-party dictatorship. There will always be those who quit the party (APC). How many different groups are there now? We’ve lost track of the number of times we’ve done it. “There will be a governing party and opposition,” he predicted.

Governor Buni, who inaugurated the committee earlier, stated that the committee’s mandate is to create constructive engagements between critical stakeholders at various levels of the party in order to restore faith and trust among party leaders.

Others, according to Buni, include conducting a need assessment survey of party members and the general public, developing a statement of the party’s vision, mission, and core values that will foster unity, developing strategies that will reposition the party in a favourable position in the public domain, and developing a timeline and framework for implementing the committee’s recommendations.

The party’s 61-man Contact/Strategy Committee includes 12 governors and two former House of Representatives speakers, Yakubu Dogara and Dimeji Bankole.
