APC Federal Lawmaker Dumps Party – Naija News Now

Hon. , an All Progressives Congress (APC) lawmaker who represents the Irepo/Oorelope/Olorunsogo federal constituency in the National Assembly’s lower chamber, along with thousands of his supporters, have defected to the Accord Party.

The federal lawmaker from Oyo State claimed that the change would improve his ability to serve his community and further his political ambitions.

This comes right after the primary elections, which were observed and recorded by INEC representatives from the three local government areas, during which the Accord Party chose Hon. Ojerinde as the party standard-bearer.

“My decision to leave the APC is anchored on the continuing multifaceted crisis that has afflicted the APC, especially at the state and local government levels, which has undermined party discipline, cohesion, and focus as demonstrated during the last APC primaries in my federal constituency,” Ojerinde said in a statement to journalists in Igboho.

Ojerinde added that the situation was exemplified by a lack of political focus, credibility, and poor leadership. He claimed that the state of the APC had not helped matters.

 

I and my supporters from all three local government areas have decided to transfer our membership in the APC to the Accord Party, with all the rights and responsibilities that go along with it, in order to exercise our constitutional right to freedom of association under the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and in accordance with the provision contained in Section 68(g) of the said Constitution.

The Hon. Olumide Ojerinde was chosen by the Accord Party as the party’s standard-bearer during its primary elections, which were observed and documented by INEC representatives from the three local governments.

 

To be able to cast their votes for the candidates of their choice in the general elections of 2023, Hon. Olumide urged citizens to obtain PVCs. Members of the Accord Party and supporters from all over the federal constituency embraced him.

He therefore thanked the Accord Party members for giving him the chance to represent his constituency in the National Assembly and vowed not to let them down. The three local government party chairmen, executives from the State, security agencies, INEC representatives from the three local government areas, and party members were among those present at the event.
