Another 2-story Building collapses in Lagos

A two-story structure in the Ago Palace Way district of Lagos state collapsed just a week after a building in Ebute Metta collapsed, killing ten people, Ejes Gist Newspaper Reports.

The two-story building on Chris Igadi Street, off Ago Palace Way, opposite Kilimanjaro/AP filling station, collapsed at 3 a.m. on Saturday, May 7, 2022, according to reports.

Residents of the building evacuated the premises two hours before the catastrophe after seeing a hint that it was about to fall.

Another two-story building in Lagos has collapsed.

Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, confirmed the occurrence.

The site of the collapsed construction had been turned over to the Lagos State Building Control Agency, according to Oke-Osanyintolu.

“The agency responded around 3 a.m. this morning to the collapsed two-story building on Chris Igadi Street, off Ago Palace Way, opposite Kilimanjaro/AP filling station,” he said.

“When we arrived, we learned from the residents that the building had been showing indications for several hours before it fell. Fortunately, no one was trapped because all of the residents departed the area two hours before the fall.

“A headcount of occupants was conducted to ensure that no one was missing, and the building’s remains were cordoned off.” Around 5:23 a.m., the procedure was completed. For further study, the site will be turned up to LABSCA and the Ministry of Physical Planning.”

Before it collapsed, it’s unclear if the two-story building had been marked for demolition by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA).
