President Buhari has Appointed Anamekwe Nwabuoku as the new Acting Accountant-General of the Federation.

Anamekwe Nwabuoku’s appointment was confirmed in a letter dated May 20, 2022, signed by Aliyu Ahmed, Permanent Secretary of Finance, Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget, and National Planning.
His appointment is contingent on the outcome of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s investigation into Idris’ alleged misappropriation of N80 billion in public funds.
Nwabuoku earned a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Accountancy from the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) in Enugu, as well as a Master of Science (M.Sc) in Financial Management from the Commonwealth University in Belize.
“Mr. Anamekwe is expected to carry out his duty in strict compliance with extant rules and observe the highest sense of professionalism expected of an officer working at his level,” said Yunusa Tanko Abdullahi, the Minister of Finance’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications.

The appointee “was born on October 15, 1962 to the family of Mr. Robert O. Anamekwe in the (Ehime) Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State.

“From 1992 to 1995, he worked for the Centre for Democratic Studies (CDS), rising to the position of Principal Accountant. From 1996 to 2001, he worked as an Assistant Chief Accountant in the Office of the AGF in Abuja. From 2001 to 2003, he worked as a Special Assistant to the Senate President on Public Affairs in the National Assembly’s Office of the Senate President, where he provided Advisory Services to the Senate President on Media and other issues. He was appointed Chief Accountant and Head of Accounts Administration at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
“From 2009 to 2012, he was in charge of Funds in the Ministry following his promotion to Assistant Director Accounts. In 2012, he was promoted to Deputy Director (Accounts) and assigned to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) as the Supervisory Officer of Ecological Funds Accounts and other related matters. In 2017, he was promoted to Director (Accounts) and assigned to the Federation’s Office of the Head of the Civil Service. From May 2019 to March 2021, he was the Director (Finance and Accounts) at the Ministry of Defence Headquarters in Abuja.
“At the moment, he is the Director, Inspectorate Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, and he is in charge of the office of the Accountant General of the Federation.”
“Mr. Anamekwe is a Fellow of the Institute of Chattered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), and a member of the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), having attended several management courses both locally and internationally.”
