INEC National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, had announced on Monday that the supplementary election will hold from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm today.

Ejes Gist News gathered  that the supplementary poll of the Anambra Governorship election is underway in Ihiala Local Area of the state.

No fewer than 18 political parties are participating in the election and they would be jostling for over 2.5 million votes.

However, the All Progressives Grand Alliance leads with a total vote of 103946.

Come out and vote’

Earlier, at about 1:20p.m., Ogwurumba Chimezie, first voter, Amamu Ward 1, Ihiala, Anambra State, told Vanguard that everything was going fine

To other voters he said: “Come out and vote, so you won’t complain later about who was (not) elected.”



2p.m.(Abbot Girls) “We’ll extend by 30 minutes; close at 4:30p.m.”
Voting going on smoothly.

Voters are orderly and observing COVID-19 protocols.

“We started behind schedule due to logistics, as material didn’t get sorted on time.

“We have 866 registered voters and the turnout is awesome.

“Since we started late, we ahve decided to add 30 minutes to the voting deadline. So we will close at 4:30p.m.,” says ad hoc staff.

Security issues are part of what caused delay. All poling units now have their materials.

The Commission (INEC) will take a decision on extension of voting time today, if there is any need.


12p.m.: At Abbot Girls Secondary School, Ihiala, Ward 3, INEC officials have arrived.

There are 866 registered voters in their records.

INEC officials, Security men spotted in Ihiala LGA at 11.44 am



At exactly 11.44 am INEC officials and security men arrived at St Augustine College, Mbosi, Ihiala LGA, where the community agreed that all the Polling Units in the Community will assemble, where all the voters will cast their vote, following the security situation in Ihiala.

INEC officials have however commenced the arrangement of their materials.


Ihiala: Confusion, panic over late arrival of INEC staff, election material

Confusion envelopes Ihiala Local Government, as INEC yet to distribute election materials as at 10.58.

Reports have it that all the vehicles for distribution of voting materials are still parked at Ijial Local Government Headquarters, with heavily armed security men, Army, Police, Civil Defence and DSS officials keeping guards.

Heavy-Duty vehicles were spotted blocking all entry and exit roads.

No one, including INEC officials and voters, was seen at Polling Units visited, further raising doubt if the election will actually hold.

The election day in Anambra State has arrived.

The governorship election features eighteen political parties and candidates, with voting scheduled to take place in over 5,000 polling units across the state’s 21 local governments.

According to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the state has 2.5 million registered voters and 5,720 polling units, but there will be no voting in 86 of them due to a lack of registered voters.

Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano and his wife, Dr. Ebelechukwu Obiano just exercised their constitutional duty by voting in the ongoing Anambra Guber elections.

As early as 9:25 am, they arrived the Eri Primary School, Otuocha 1, polling unit 004 where there are 1162 number of registered voters.

Obiano hailed INEC over the exercise stating that this was easier unlike 2019.

They called on eligible voters to come out and perform their civic duty without fear as everywhere is calm and peaceful.

10:13 am: Anambra deputy governor votes, at Umuezu awovu polling unit.


9.45 am: Biomedical accreditation verification system ongoing at Unit 002, Ofiyi, Isuofia, Aguata LGA

9.25 am: Accreditation commences at Igwebike primary school,  Unit 008

9:20 am: Booth 002 Ofiyi, Isuofia where the APGA candidate, Prof. Soludo is expected to cast his vote.

So far in all the polling units, no presence of security operatives, this is allegedly contributing to late arrival of electoral officials.

8:11 am: At the polling unit of Senator Andy Uba in Ugah, Aguata LGA, electoral officials and security personnel are yet to arrive at the venue of the election.

People were so scared that they took to their heels at the sight of the vehicle conveying Newsmen.

Senator Andy Uba is expected to cast his vote here.

7:45 am: At Nnewi North Local Government Area, it’s a quiet morning as the electorate are still enjoying the comfort of their beds while the streets are deserted.

However, a few residents are seen at the front of their houses in clusters while security operatives drive through the streets.
