The feud began when a Twitter user who appeared to be a Davido fan tweeted that Davido brought Amapiano to Nigeria and popularised the genre after appearing on Focalistic’s ‘K-Star’ remix.
The tweet also confirmed Wizkid’s most recent single, ‘Bad For Me,’ was a desperate attempt to score a hit following Davido’s purported importation of the South African genre.
Davido responded to the DJ by tweeting, “You’ve never liked me y?” I’ve always been pleasant to you. Anyways! NOW!!! AWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA “Chu, chu, chu chu.”
The tweet elicited numerous reactions from Twitter users, with Wizkid and Davido fans debating the genre’s history in relation to the two artists.
Meanwhile, Davido’s brother, Adewale Adeleke, has joined forces to criticise DJ Maphorisa, tweeting on his Twitter account that despite his brother’s efforts to put “on a countless number of artists & producers,” some of them choose to disrespect him.
“My brother put on a countless number of artists & producers only for “some” of them to disrespect him,” the tweet reads. There’s a reason he’s still here and you’ve all fallen off…”
