The Federal High Court in Damaturu, Yobe State, issued its decision on Wednesday regarding the upcoming election for the Yobe North senatorial district.

Aminu called the primary election in which Lawan won the nomination a “phantom.”

The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has stated that he will not appeal the decision.

In a statement signed and made public on Thursday, Lawan stated that he had accepted the court’s decision disqualifying his candidacy and participation in the election.

Lawan stated, “The Federal High Court in Damaturu rendered judgement on the legitimate candidate for the Yobe North Senatorial District for the 2023 National Assembly elections yesterday, Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

My candidacy and consequently my participation in the elections are invalidated by the aforementioned judgement.

“I have decided not to appeal the judgement after due consultation with my political associates, supporters, and well-wishers. I agree with the verdict.

Lawan also expressed his gratitude to his governor and a constituent for their assistance.

“I deem it appropriate to thank His Excellency, Senator Ibrahim Gaidam for serving as the political family’s leader in Yobe State under the APC,” he continued. I also want to express my gratitude to Governor Mai Mala Buni for his support and sense of brotherhood.

“To all of my constituents, I would like to express my gratitude for your unwavering commitment to the development of Yobe North Senatorial District, Yobe State, and our people.

“We journeyed together for a long time, and this journey will remain a life long journey. The relationship has been wonderful and it can only get better. You are all owed to me. “Thank God,” he continued.
