Why I dumped APC for PDP,  , Senator representing Buhari’s Senatorial District.

Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita of Katsina North Senatorial District has defected from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)  to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) .

Abdulkadir Lawal, his media aide, confirmed this in a statement.

The Katsina North senatorial zone is made up of 12 local government areas, including Daura, the hometown of President Muhammadu Buhari.

Babba Kaita was elected to the 8th Senate in 2018 to fill the senatorial vacancy left by Senator Mustapha Bukar’s death.

Babba Kaita explained that his decision to join the PDP was motivated by a strong desire and opportunity to provide succor and much-needed democratic dividends to his people.

“Distinguished Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita has followed the recent events in Katsina state with keen interest and deep concern as a loyal party man and responsive democrat whose expansive support base in his constituency has remained pivotal to his passion for the reciprocal growth and development of his people,” the statement said.

“Among the many implications of these numerous concerns is Governor Masari’s administration’s gradual loss of credibility, particularly in the avowed refusal to conduct local government elections across the state on time.

“The administration’s willful refusal to uphold democracy’s basic foundation has also manifested itself in the state government’s and the party’s leadership’s marginalization of critical stakeholders.”

“The recent state and ward congresses, which were rigged out of open competition and had no identified genuine pro-government delegates, are clearly a rape of grassroots politicians and genuine party foot-soldiers.”

“The complete lack of a level playing field speaks volumes about an already orchestrated slide toward antidemocratic principles, and it calls into question every good conscience, including ours.” All politics takes place on a local level.

“As an advocate for transparency, accountability, and the continual entrenchment of popular will, Senator Kaita cannot continue to share the tent of undemocratic merchandise clearly being executed against his people by the state government and party leadership,” says the statement.

“Taking a clear inventory of where Katsina state stands today is already a heavy burden on one’s conscience. For far too long, our good people have excused deprivation, poverty, and hunger in their millions.

“They have lived with the risk to their lives and well-being posed by the state government’s inability to address insecurity head-on.”

“They’ve already been denied enough by the state government.” We can’t take away their freedom of choice. Following extensive consultations, our response to our people’s clarion call to vacate the APC has finally found expression in our response to the serial denial of the people’s mandate at recent Congresses, among other related developments.

“Senator Ahmad Babba Kaita is not a politician who jumps on the bandwagon. His exemplary and robust representation in the Nigerian Senate is admired by all, and has had significant, visible impacts on infrastructural and human capital development across the state’s three senatorial zones. There’s still room for improvement.”
