Teko Modise, a former South African midfielder, has named Nigeria’s Super Eagles as the team capable of winning the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Cameroon in 2021.
Modise made the remarks ahead of Nigeria’s final Group D match on Wednesday against Guinea-Bissau.
After two wins over Egypt and Sudan, Nigeria has already qualified for the AFCON round of 16.
However, Modise, who played for the Bafana Bafana from 2007 to 2012, believes Augustine Eguavoen’s men pose a greater attacking threat.
“I played against a Super Eagles team with a lot of big names, but the guns had no bullets,” Modise told ESPN.
“The ones who are currently playing are more promising and dangerous than the ones I faced, so they have a chance to win.”
“They pose a significant threat.” I believe the team has a lot of depth, but they haven’t been put to the test yet, especially in that second game. However, I believe that their depth will be revealed after the group stages.”
