Abductors demand N10m ransom for Kidnapped Abia Journalist

Chuks Onuoha, a former Abia correspondent for the Daily Sun Newspapers, has been kidnapped and his captors are demanding N10 million in ransom.

Onuoha was allegedly kidnapped in the Umungasi, Umuagu, Ohuhu area of Umuahia North Local Government Area.

Onuoha is the print editor of the All Facts Newspaper.

Abia Police spokesman Geoffrey Ogbonna said he had not been informed about the development when contacted.

Ogbonna promised to contact our reporter as soon as he receives information from the DPO about the incident.

However, Onuoha’s kidnapping was confirmed by Ohuhu Welfare Union Worldwide.

In a statement released in response to the incident, the Ohuhu community’s Publicity Secretary, Enwereuzo Ogbonna, stated that the community is working with the Onuoha family to ensure the victim’s safe release.

It urged residents to reinforce the community’s 24-hour local vigilante patrol to help ensure the safety of people and property.

The statement reads

“This is to bring to the attention of ndi Ohuhu that the family of our brother, Mr. Chucks Onuoha, contacted the Union this morning to report that around 11 p.m. last night, about five armed men broke into their home at Umungasi near Umuagu and abducted him, as well as his green Nissan Pathfinder”.

“The abductors have contacted the family with a ransom demand, according to the family.”

“While the Union continues to work with the family to ensure his safety and return, we’d like to take this opportunity to reiterate our earlier request that all villages in Ohuhu activate their local vigilantes on a 24-hour basis.”

“We once again urge ndi Ohuhu and all non-indigenous residents of Ohuhu to take responsibility for their own safety, the safety of their families, and the environment by limiting late-night movements and ceremonies and avoiding all acts of carelessness that may jeopardize their personal safety, the safety of their loved ones, and the environment.”

“Please be assured that the Union is working closely with security agencies to ensure that these threats to Ohuhu land’s peace are addressed as soon as possible.”

“In these trying times, we ask for the prayers of ndi Ohuhu for the safe return of our brother and his family.”

“We are confident that the current atmosphere of lawlessness and evil will dissipate quickly.

“May God’s peace keep our land safe from evil.”
