The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Cross River State has called on security and anti-corruption agencies to investigate allegations that equipment procured for the postponed 2026 National Census is being diverted for use as campaign gifts for All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates in Akamkpa and Biase Local Government Areas.

The party’s call followed allegations raised by the Cross River Coalition for Democratic Accountability and Good Governance concerning the alleged diversion of the census equipment for partisan political purposes.

In a press statement dated October 13, 2026, Archibong Eyo, spokesman to ADC governorship candidate Ambassador Nkoyo Toyo, expressed concern over the allegations and stressed that public assets must not be used to advance the interests of any political party.

Eyo warned that if the allegations were established, the alleged diversion would constitute a serious breach of public trust and should attract appropriate legal consequences.

He called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), and the Department of State Services (DSS) to urgently investigate the matter.

The ADC spokesman urged the agencies to secure the equipment in question and ensure that anyone found responsible is held accountable in accordance with the law.

He also called on the National Population Commission (NPC) to clarify the whereabouts of the materials and provide a transparent account of how the equipment has been handled.

According to him, public resources belong to Nigerians and should not be converted into instruments for securing partisan political advantage.

The statement comes amid political activities in Cross River State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and candidates intensifying their engagements across the state.

However, the allegations of diversion remain unverified in the statement, which called for an investigation by the relevant authorities. No response from the APC or the National Population Commission was included in the press release.

The ADC maintained that a thorough investigation and full accountability are necessary to protect public resources and uphold public trust.
