Ejes Gist News reports that the governor also extended appreciation to the local vigilante group whose collaboration with security agencies proved decisive.
“This arrest demonstrates the government’s resolve to safeguard public assets and ensure that investments in infrastructure continue to serve the people without disruption,” Oborevwori stated.
According to a police statement issued by Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, operatives attached to the Kwale Police Station, working jointly with a local vigilante group, acted on credible intelligence on June 25, 2026.
The security team stormed the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road where suspects were allegedly dismantling and carting away electric cables.
The suspects reportedly attempted to flee upon sighting the operatives but were swiftly apprehended.
The two suspects have been identified as:
- Osakwe Sunday**, 28 years old
- Ekene Obocha**, 34 years old
SP Edafe disclosed that one of the suspects sustained injuries during the operation and is currently receiving medical treatment, while the other remains in police custody. The vandalised electric cables were recovered as exhibits.
Governor Oborevwori urged residents to continue supporting security agencies by providing timely and credible information to aid the fight against crime. He reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering commitment to protecting public infrastructure and maintaining a safe, secure environment for all Deltans.
Meanwhile, CP Yemi Oyeniyi issued a stern warning to criminal elements to desist from vandalising critical government infrastructure, stressing that the Command would continue to identify, arrest, and prosecute offenders.
He further appealed to members of the public to sustain their cooperation with the police by volunteering useful information capable of preventing crime and bringing offenders to justice.
