World-renowned heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua was involved in a road traffic accident on Monday along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway in Makun area of Ogun State, with police confirming that two persons died in the incident.
Ejes Gist News reports that the crash occurred shortly after 11:00 a.m. near Danco Filling Station, before the Sagamu Interchange on the Ibadan-bound axis of the expressway.
Eyewitnesses said the vehicle conveying Joshua, a Lexus SUV, collided with a stationary truck under circumstances that are still under investigation.
An eyewitness, Adeniyi Orojo, who was at the scene, said the convoy consisted of two sport utility vehicles—a Lexus SUV and a Pajero SUV—with security personnel trailing behind.

He added that rescue efforts began immediately after the accident, with passersby assisting before officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps arrived.
“The passenger beside the driver and the person sitting next to Joshua died on the spot,” Orojo stated.
Videos and photographs from the scene later circulated on social media, triggering widespread concern among fans and members of the public.
When contacted, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed the incident.
In a brief statement issued about 30 minutes later, a police source confirmed that two persons died in the crash, while Joshua and one other individual were taken to the hospital for treatment.
“Two died, while Joshua and one other have been hospitalised and are receiving treatment at a hospital that will not be disclosed,” the source said.
Efforts to reach officials of the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) for further details were unsuccessful as of the time of filing this report.
Authorities said investigations were ongoing to determine the cause of the crash, while further updates on the condition of those hospitalised are expected.
