In accordance with the 1999 Constitution, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has issued a proclamation letter for the inauguration of the tenth National Assembly. 1) Before today’s inauguration of the tenth National Assembly, President Bola Tinubu mobilised support for Senator Godswill Akpabio, who is running for Senate president. In an effort to garner support for Akpabio and other All Progressives Congress nominees, the President met with Hope Uzodinma, chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum.   2) Four police officers from the Ogudu Police Division in Lagos State extorted N153, 000 from Emmanuel Nnawuihe, a student at Cyprus University, in the Ojota region of the state. It was reported that Nnawuihe was driving to a destination in the state when he was flagged down for a search in the Ojota under-bridge area by police officers on operational duty.   3) A man named Taye died from electrocution after colliding with an unfenced transformer in Idi-Oro, Lagos State’s Mushin neighbourhood. According to the report, Taye was under the influence of the illicit drug Colorado when he crashed into the transformer and was electrocuted.   4) The Student Loan Bill has been signed into law by President Bola Tinubu in fulfilment of a campaign pledge. Tinubu had promised student loans during his campaign as part of efforts to develop the education sector and increase youth capacity.   5) Several members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who left Imo State to attend today’s inauguration of the tenth National Assembly perished in a car accident. According to Cajetan Duke, a spokesman for the APC in Imo, the bus they were riding in collided head-on with another bus in Agbor, Delta State.   6) The Northern Elders Forum warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Monday, urging him to respect the principle of separation of powers and permit the 10th National Assembly members to elect their leaders.   7) On Monday, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu pledged to repay the confidence and mandate of Nigerians with democratic dividends. He stated that the removal of fuel subsidies was intended to free up the nation’s vast resources for the benefit of a few wealthy individuals, while conceding that it would cause temporary hardships for the masses.   8) The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in collaboration with tertiary institutions, will determine the admissions cut-off marks on June 24. The cutoff scores would be adopted at the 2023 meeting of the admissions policy committee.   9) Concerned parents of Chibok schoolgirls have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for assistance in facilitating the release of 92 abducted girls still held by Boko Haram.
