Great Jubilation because the Dadin-Kowa Hydro-Power Plant in Gombe State, initiated in 1959 to generate 40 megawatts of electrical energy is now ready for inauguration after 60 years of execution setbacks.
Those accustomed to the mission described it as “a success story” regardless of the lengthy delay it suffered.
People of Dadin-Kowa and adjoining communities stated the facility mission will add impetus to the socio-economic growth of the northern area and the nation at giant.
Though the mission was initiated a year earlier than Nigeria’s independence, the contract for the dam mission was not awarded till 1980, and the inauguration eight years later, in 1988, by then navy president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida.

The reservoir has a capability of 800 million cubic meters of water and a floor space of 300 sq. km.
The dam has potential as a source of fish, however nothing critical was completed on the electrical energy potential till lately.

While the dam was inaugurated practically 40 years in the past in 1988, work on the electrical energy part, designed to be producing 40 megawatts of electrical energy, has been going forwards and backwards for 31 years after the dam elements had been accomplished.
The Dadin-Kowa Dam is situated 5km north of Dadin- Kowa village and 37km from Gombe city, alongside Biu street.
