Six members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance () in the Anambra State House of Assembly have defected to the All Progressives Congress () ahead of the state’s upcoming governorship election.

However, the were received and immediately presented with the APC flag at the end of a strategic meeting held behind closed doors by Chairman APC Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni.

Hon. Nonso Okafor, who represents Nnewi North, Hon. Timothy Ifedioramma, who represents Njikoka 1, Hon. Cater D. N Umeoduagu, who represents Aguata 1, Hon. Lawrence Ezeudu, who represents Dumekofia, Hon. Arthur Chiekwu, who represents Idemmih North, and Hon. Edward Ibuzo, who represents Onisha North 2, are among the six state lawmakers.

Chairman APC Caretaker and Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee Governor Mai Mala Buni, while receiving the new APC members at a brief event Tuesday evening in Abuja, reaffirmed the party’s determination to win the Anambra governorship election, hence the zeal in engaging critical stakeholders in the state.

“Mere looking at what is happening, especially now that so prominent and serving state lawmaker have started joining, the grassroot is moving and Anambra people are moving to the APC.” Governor Buni said.

Imo state governor Hope Uzodinma also spoke, saying that the people of the South-east have woken up and that the region is committed to national politics and wants to be a part of Nigeria.

He also expressed confidence in his party’s ability to win the governorship election in Anambra State.

The decampees described the All Progressives Congress as Nigeria’s preferred political party, promising to rally support in the run-up to the November 6 governorship elections.

Governors of Lagos, Osun, Kogi, and Imo states were among those who attended the brief ceremony held at the Imo State Governors’ Lodge.
